The 3rd edition of the North East Games 2024 has been officially inaugurated by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at the Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence, Sovima.
More than 3000 athletes from eight North Eastern states are set to compete in 15 sports across 12 venues in Chumoukedima, Dimapur, and Kohima, showcasing the depth and diversity of sports talent in the region.
The North East Olympic Games (NEOG) are a sports event held in Northeast India. The eight states of the region compete in each edition.
Manipur became the champion in the three consecutive years of the 2022, 2023 & 2024 Northeast Games.
Manipur has won the most medals in the first two editions held so far.
The 2024 edition was held on 18 March at Nagaland.

ISRO has successfully conducted the landing experiment of RLV ‘Pushpak’ in Karnataka.
Pushpak’s autonomous landing mission marked its 3rd success.
It demonstrated strides in reusable space technology, reflecting on previous 2016 and last year’s missions.
The Reusable Launch Vehicle Technology Demonstrator (RLV-TD) Programme is focused on developing critical technologies for a fully reusable launch vehicle (RLV) to facilitate cost-effective access to space.
The RLV is designed as a space plane with a low lift-to-drag ratio, allowing it to transport payloads to low Earth orbits and return to Earth for reuse.
India aims to scale up this vehicle to serve as the first stage of its reusable two-stage orbital launch vehicle.

The ruling Communist Party has announced that the president has been forced to resign for breaking party rules & negatively affecting its reputation.
He served as the 12th President of Vietnam from March 2023 to March 2024.
Vo Van Thuong has resigned as president, becoming the youngest and shortest-serving individual to hold the position in the country’s history.

12 citizens have been successfully rescued in the Caribbean nation.
The Caribbean nation of Haiti has been plagued by widespread gang violence for over two years since the July 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moise.
There are between 75 and 90 Indians in Haiti to be rescued.

World Water Day, which falls on March 22, is a global initiative backed by the United Nations.
The Day aims to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.
The theme for 2024 is “Water for Peace”.
The idea for this international day goes back to 1992, the year in which the UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro took place.
That same year, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution by which 22nd March of each year was declared World Day for Water, to be observed starting in 1993.
