World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2023 will be celebrated around the theme, “Empowering the least developed countries through information and communication technologies.”

The Day commemorates the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on 17 May 1865. On 17 May 1969 first time, World Telecommunication Day was celebrated annually, marking the founding of ITU and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865. It was instituted by the Plenipotentiary Conference in Malaga-Torremolinos in 1973.

World Hypertension Day 2023: Every year on May 17, a global campaign recognised as World Hypertension Day is celebrated to increase awareness of hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched a campaign called ‘100 Days 100 Pays’ to return unclaimed bank deposits to their rightful owners or claimants.
The RBI in a statement on May 12 said that under its special 100 days campaign banks will trace and settle their top 100 deposits in every district of the country. The Banks will start the campaign on June 01, 2023.

Businesses with turnover of over ₹5 crores will have to generate electronic or e-invoice for B2B transactions with effect from August 1. Currently, the e-voice mandate is applicable for businesses with a turnover of and above ₹10 crores.

The finance ministry through a notification dated May 10 has notified a reduction in the threshold for e-invoicing. Effective August 1, any taxpayer with a turnover exceeding ₹5 crores should raise e-invoices for B2B supplies.

Sumit Mukherjee, a metro employee from Kolkata, won gold medals
at the Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle-East Championship
(BFAME) held in Lahore, Pakistan.
The championship took place from 5 May to 13 May and featured
teams from five different countries.
The games were divided into four categories: Open, Women’s, Mixed
and Senior, and Sumit represented India in the Open category.
Sumit Mukherjee had earlier won a bronze medal at the 2018 Jakarta
Asian Games and the 4th Asia Cup Bridge Championships to be held
in Jakarta in 2022.
With this win, they qualify for World Bridge Championship 2023 to be
held in Marrakech, Morocco, later in August.

Pradip Kumar Banerjee FIFAOM (23 June 1936 – 20 March 2020) was an Indian professional footballer who played as a striker for the Indian national football team.

‘Gauri’ wins ‘Best Long Documentary Award’ at the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal
The documentary “Gauri”, directed by Kavitha Lankesh, has received the “Best Long Documentary Award” at the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal 2023. The film is about journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh, who was assassinated in 2017, and the current political crisis in India.

The award citation describes the film as a courageous and uncompromising examination of the events surrounding Gauri Lankesh’s murder and praises Kavitha Lankesh’s energetic direction and narration.

The Netherlands has emerged as India’s third largest exports destination after the US and UAE during 2022-23, showed commerce ministry’s data India’s exports to the Netherlands rose by about 48 per cent to USD 18.52 billion during 2022-23 as against USD 12.5 billion in 2021-22.
Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) Director General Ajay Sahai said the Netherlands has emerged as a hub for Europe with efficient ports and connectivity with the EU through roads, railways and waterways.
