The 2022 Winter Olympics has kicked off on February 04, 2022, in Beijing, China and will continue till February 20, 2022. The Opening Ceremony was held at Beijing’s National Stadium. However, India had announced the diplomatic level boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics opening and closing ceremony. However, the country has sent one of its athletes, Arif Khan (skier), to attend the event.
REASON BEHIND BOYCOTT?
China has picked a Chinese soldier (Qi Fabao) as Olympic torchbearer, who was involved in the Galwan incident on June 15, 2020, which had resulted in the death of 20 Indian soldiers, including a Colonel.
Strong Tremors Felt In Delhi, Noida, J&K After Earthquake In Afghanistan
Tremors were felt in Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi and nearby cities this morning after a magnitude 5.7 earthquake with its epicentre in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region was reported.
Some residents in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida tweeted the ground shook for at least 20 seconds. People in Delhi also tweeted they felt the tremor. Fortunately no deaths, injuries or property damage are reported.
Two TRF militants killed in Zakura Srinagar gunfight.
Police on Saturday morning claimed to have killed two militants of The Resistance Front (TRF) outfit in a gunfight in the Zakura area of Srinagar.
“02 #terrorists of terror outfit LeT/TRF #neutralised by Srinagar Police. One of the killed terrorists Ikhlaq Hajam was involved in recent killing of HC Ali Mohd at Hassanpora Anantnag. Incriminating materials including 02 pistols recovered: IGP Kashmir,” said a police spokesman while quoting IGP Kashmir.
