About GATE

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee.

GATE 2026 Exam Details

GATE 2026 will be conducted by IIT Guwahati in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across multiple centers in India and abroad. The exam will be held on 7, 8, 14, and 15 February 2026.

GATE 2026 Vacancies

GATE 2026 does not have fixed vacancies. Qualifying candidates are eligible for admission into M.Tech, M.E., and Ph.D. programs at IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other top institutions. GATE scores are also used by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruitment.

GATE 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification	Candidate must be in the 3rd year or higher of any undergraduate program or have completed a degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities. Foreign degree holders must have completed a minimum 3-year Bachelor’s degree. Professional society exams recognized by MoE/AICTE/UGC/UPSC are also eligible.

GATE 2026 Selection Process

Selection is based on GATE 2026 scores. Admission into institutions or recruitment in PSUs depends on cut-off marks and additional selection rounds such as counselling or interviews.

GATE 2026 Salary / Benefits

Qualified candidates admitted into IITs/IISc are eligible for MHRD scholarships and assistantships. PSUs recruiting through GATE offer competitive salary packages ranging from Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 60,000 per month for entry-level positions.
