The ESE 2026 recruitment will select candidates for various central engineering services and cadres in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics & Telecommunication disciplines. The Preliminary (Stage-I) exam is scheduled to be held on 08.02.2026.

UPSC ESE 2026 Recruitment 2026 Vacancies

The notification indicates an expected total of approximately 474 vacancies distributed among Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics & Telecommunication disciplines. A portion of vacancies is reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities and other reserved categories as per government rules. Vacancies are provisional and may be changed by UPSC.

UPSC ESE 2026 Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

• Nationality: Indian citizen (or other categories permitted by rule).
• Age: 21–30 years as on 01-01-2026 with age relaxations for reserved categories as per rules.
• Educational Qualification: Degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification recognized by UPSC; refer to the official notification for full details and acceptable equivalent qualifications.
• Candidates must possess valid supporting certificates (caste/EWS/PwBD/service, etc.) where applicable by the closing date.

UPSC ESE 2026 Recruitment 2026 Selection Process

Selection consists of three stages:

1. Preliminary Examination (Stage-I) — Objective type with negative marking for incorrect answers.
2. Main Examination (Stage-II) — Conventional (written) descriptive papers.
3. Personality Test / Interview — For candidates who qualify Stage-II; final allotment based on merit, preferences and medical/physical fitness.

UPSC ESE 2026 Recruitment 2026 Salary

Selected candidates will be appointed to Group A engineering services and will receive pay and allowances according to the Central Government pay scales relevant to the service/cadre to which they are allotted.

UPSC ESE 2026 Recruitment 2026 Application Fee

Application fee is Rs. 200/-. Female, SC, ST and PwBD candidates are exempted from fee. Fee payment modes include online payment methods and prescribed challan options. Fee once paid is non-refundable.

UPSC ESE 2026 Recruitment 2026 Application Process

1. Register and complete the Universal Registration (URN) on the UPSC online portal.
2. Fill the Common Application Form (CAF) and the exam-specific module within the application window (26.09.2025 to 16.10.2025).
3. Upload required documents (recent passport-size photograph, signature, matriculation certificate for DOB verification and valid photo ID details).
4. Pay the application fee if applicable and submit the final application. Avoid submitting multiple applications.
5. Download e-Admit Card from UPSC website when released and follow instructions communicated by UPSC.
